Lets take a look a look at a few other things that Jesus said.
12 “In everything, therefore, treat people the same way you want them to treat you, for this is the Law and the Prophets.
13 “Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it.
14 “FOR THE GATE IS SMALL AND THE WAY IS NARROW THAT LEADS TO LIFE, AND THERE ARE FEW WHO FIND IT.
15 “BEWARE OF THE FALSE PROPHETS, WHO COME TO YOU IN SHEEP’S CLOTHING, BUT INWARDLY ARE RAVENOUS WOLVES.
I just want to draw out a couple of things that Jesus said here for emphasis.
“For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it”.
According to Jesus…….the way to life is very difficult to attain.
It is a way that is very difficult to find…….for whatever reason.
There needs to be an automatic suspicion given the fact that there are over 3 billion Christians in the world…..all claiming to have found this way.
3 billion people is not “few”…..by any stretch of the imagination.
Needless to say this is all on the basis of Paul’s “way” to salvation which is pretty easy……confess with your mouth and believe in your heart…..that’s all you have to do.
Does this way sound difficult to find to you?
According to Jesus…….there are false prophets….. who appear to be good…..but inwardly they are evil.
So how do we differentiate the true prophets from the false ones?
1 “Truly, truly, I say to you, HE WHO DOES NOT ENTER BY THE DOOR INTO THE FOLD OF THE SHEEP, BUT CLIMBS UP SOME OTHER WAY, HE IS A THEIF AND A ROBBER.
2 “But he who enters by the door is a shepherd of the sheep.
3 “To him the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name, and leads them out.
4 “When he puts forth all his own, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him because they know his voice.
5 “And a stranger they simply will not follow, but will flee from him, because they do not know the voice of strangers.”
6 This figure of speech Jesus spoke to them, but they did not understand what those things were which He had been saying to them.
7 Jesus therefore said to them again, “Truly, truly, I say to you, I AM THE DOOR OF THE SHEEP.
8 “ALL WHO CAME BEFORE ME ARE THEIVES AND ROBBERS, BUT THE SHEEP DID NOT HEAR THEM.
9 “I AM THE DOOR; IF ANYONE ENTERS THROUGH ME, HE SHALL BE SAVED, AND SHALL GO IN AND OUT, AND FIND PASTURE.
10 “The thief comes only to steal, and kill, and destroy; I CAME THAT THEY MIGHT HAVE LIFE, AND MIGHT HAVE IT MORE ABUNDANTLY.
11 “I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep.
12 “He who is a hireling, and not a shepherd, who is not the owner of the sheep, beholds the wolf coming, and leaves the sheep, and flees, and the wolf snatches them, and scatters them.
13 “He flees because he is a hireling, and is not concerned about the sheep.
14 “I am the good shepherd; and I know My own, and My own know Me,
15 even as the Father knows Me and I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep.
16 “And I have other sheep, which are not of this fold; I must bring them also,
According to Jesus……he is the door.
There is no way to finding God…….except through the words that he revealed.
It is through understanding the message of Jesus that one will be able to obtain life.
And as we have established previously …..
Life……is having a relationship with God.
So this is not a theory…… this is a practical relationship that can easily be put to the test…..after all ….if it is the truth….. then understanding his message could be the wisest thing we ever do.
Lets relate this back to the issue of false prophets.
According to Jesus…..everyone that came before him is a thief and a robber.
Moses is a thief and a robber.
Isaiah is a thief and a robber.
Everyone that ever wrote about God before his message came is a thief and a robber.
Simply because they did not have a “full” understanding of God…..hence why noone had a father son relationship with God until Jesus came.
If Jesus is the only true way……
Then anyone that teaches a different way is opening a “different door”…..to use the analogy that Jesus used.
16 “Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves; therefore be shrewd as serpents, and innocent as doves.
17 “But BEWARE OF MEN; for they will deliver you up to the courts, and scourge you in their synagogues.
Jesus never told anyone to beware of the devil.
But he did say that we should beware of “men”.
It is men that deceive other men.
It is men that lead other men away from God.
It is men that do evil.
It is men……that kill other men……in every sense of the word.
What is it about men that we need to beware of?
For a certain length of time…..we will explore ‘men” and what exactly it is about them that we need to be conscious of.
This is not going to be an easy element to cover.
But if you are open minded…… it just might broaden your perspective on life.
And change certain things that you hold valuable.
To be continued……
